Classes
 

Yoga classes incorporate yoga postures, music and games or stories when appropriate. Activities for each Class are selected based on age group and may be organized around a theme. Children and adults are introduced to basic yoga postures and breathing techniques. Children will learn yoga postures as they learn about their bodies (anatomy), the world around them (ecological facts and animals) and group interaction. With continued exposure children will have at their disposal tools to use to manage stress and self-soothe. Classes are designed to be FUN! Bilingual classes also available. (Spanish)

 

Yoga Class Type:

Yoga and Storytime for Parent and Child (ages 3-5)

These classes introduce children to yoga postures through stories and inter-active games. Children and parents will learn basic yoga postures and will be gently introduced to some breathing techniques. Classes focus on gross motor skills and language arts. Classes may include songs and children’s literature.

 

Yoga for Children (ages 5-9)

Classes will include yoga postures, games and songs. Children will be introduced to yoga in a way that is accessible and fun. They will learn basic postures, breathing techniques and some anatomy and ecological facts. Yoga is a fun way to take care of one’s body. Children will also be exposed to relaxation techniques, a very important element in learning to manage stress.

 

Yoga for Families (ages 5-9)

Same as above but including family members.

 

Yoga for Babies and Mothers (6 months to pre-crawlers

Classes involve play, singing, back and forth interactions between Mom and baby. Through the use of adapted yoga poses and by focusing on the breath in conjunction with movement, these classes are geared to promote relaxation in both baby and Mom. In the play, Mother’s are gently handling and touching baby as they teach him/her the poses and give the baby opportunities to practice. Touch and sensitivity to the baby’s cues communicates both comfort and promotes a secure sense of attachment in babies. The postures themselves also help babies sleep better, get relief from gas pains and colics. They also help baby digest food easier, provide neuromuscular stimulation, strengthen their immune system and helps them learn to relax.

 

Yoga for Teens

Yoga helps teens chill out and get in tune with their inner self. In these classes, Yoga postures are presented in dynamic flows, more advance yoga postures are introduced and focus is on learning to integrate movement and breath. Classes include relaxation exercises and may include expressive arts elements. Yoga can help teens grow in patience, improve their posture, and increase their energy. It can also help their mind become less restless and with continued practice they will develop coping skills to manage stress more effectively. Yoga can also help teens grow in confidence as they discover their abilities and learn master poses.

 

Yoga for ADHD

This class is appropriate for kids who struggle with attention and focus, hyperactivity, impulsivity and have sensory integration difficulties. Yoga offers a positive, life-enhancing routine. The systemic pattern of movement promotes learning through pattern recognition and repetition, this helps organize the brain. The emphasis on physiological self-perception strengthens self-awareness. These specialized Yoga classes are designed to give child individualized attention, train their sensory motor and attention systems and increase self-esteem and independence.
